The Department of Nonferrous Metals Metallurgy was established in July 2011 to undertake the training of undergraduate, master and doctoral students majoring in nonferrous metals metallurgy in metallurgical engineering. The major passed the engineering education certification of the Ministry of Education in 2015 and 2018, and was approved as a national first-class major in 2020. Metallurgical engineering subject has first-class master program, doctoral program and post-doctoral research station.

There are 14 full-time teachers and 4 distinguished and part-time professors in the Department of Nonferrous Metals Metallurgy. Among the full-time teachers, there are 3 professors and 6 associate professors, including 1 doctoral supervisor and 12 master supervisors, and 1 won the National May Day Labor Medal. Department of Nonferrous Metals Metallurgy was selected as the "Innovative Talent Team of Colleges and Universities in Anhui Province" in 2014, and the Party branch was awarded the "Demonstration Site for the Construction of Learning Party Organization in Anhui Province" in 2016.

The Department of Nonferrous Metals Metallurgy adheres to the talent training goal of "thick foundation, wide caliber, compound and high quality", and the educational concept of "student-centered" and "output orientation", supplying engineering technical as well as scientific and technological high-quality talents for metallurgical engineering and related fields. In terms of graduate employment, in addition to the traditional nonferrous metal industry, our department has supplied a large number of excellent talents for strategic emerging industries such as new energy, new materials, environmental protection and biomedicine in recent years, making contributions to the development of national high and new technology.

The metallurgical engineering subject possesses the Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education, Anhui Key Laboratory and Anhui Collaborative Innovation Center. The Department of Nonferrous Metals Metallurgy has long been committed to the resource recycling and new material development of rare and precious metals in strategic emerging industries such as new energy and electronic information, and has formed new theories and processes characterized by deep separation and high-end manufacturing of critical metals such as lithium, gold, platinum, palladium, gallium, indium and tellurium. Our department has undertaken 18 national scientific research projects, won 6 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards, published more than 200 high-level academic papers and authorized more than 30 national invention patents.
