Material Formation and Control Engineering speciality is one of the first three undergraduate majors in Anhui University of technology. The major was founded in 1977 as Steel Rolling speciality, renamed Metal Working speciality in 1983, and renamed Material Formation and Control Engineering speciality in 1998 according to the requirements of the Ministry of education. In 2003, it set up two professional directions of rolling forming and die forming, and in 2016, it adjusted to two professional directions of material forming technology and process control and digital material forming. In 2011, it was selected as the national characteristic specialty construction site, in 2013, it was selected as the excellent engineer education and training plan of the Ministry of education, and in 2019, it was selected as the national first-class undergraduate specialty construction site. In 1985, the discipline began to recruit and train master's degree students jointly with Northeastern University. In 1998, the discipline obtained the right to grant master's degree in secondary discipline of material processing engineering. In 2005, the discipline obtained the right to grant master's degree in primary discipline of material science and engineering. In 2008, it was listed as a key discipline in Anhui Province, and in 2013, it obtained the right to grant doctor's degree.
The major is committed to cultivating students' comprehensive quality. Students' comprehensive practical ability and innovation ability have been greatly improved. In recent years, students have presided over more than 40 national / provincial innovation and entrepreneurship projects, won more than 10 national awards, 20 provincial awards and more than 40 authorized patents in the "Challenge Cup" and other extracurricular academic works competition, and won the title of the 13th "national model of bravery for a just cause" and one nomination award of the top ten provincial university students.
There are 44 full-time teachers (11 professors and 16 associate professors). Among them, there are 1 international registered chief Innovation Officer, 1 State Council subsidy, 2 provincial academic and technological leaders, 1 provincial famous teaching teacher, 1 excellent teacher and 1 nomination award from Baosteel, 1 Director of the second level institute, 1 vice chairman of the second level institute and 2 members of the second level Institute. Taking the course of material forming as the core, integrating the technologies of intelligence, digitization and network, two characteristic professional directions of digital material forming, intelligent material forming and process control are formed under the background of new engineering. The major has seven platforms, including national practice education base and Engineering Center, Key Laboratory of Ministry of education, Key Laboratory of Anhui Province, experimental demonstration center, innovation and training center, etc. Engineering and materials science are among the top 1% of the global ESI. The building area of the college's experimental center is nearly 15000 square meters, with another 1500 square meters of heavy-duty laboratory.
